History

Northern Home Furniture Fargo Ford Building

Historic Ford Building

The company was founded in 2001 by Kevin Bartram, principal architect and owner of Mutchler Bartram Architects PC, at 300 NP Avenue in downtown Fargo. In 2006, Bartram purchased the Historic Ford Building at 505 N. Broadway. The structure was constructed in 1915 as a Ford Motor Company assembly plant, where Model T cars were built. It was designed by John Graham of Seattle, who built similar Ford plants in cities such as Minneapolis. The building is located along a rail line and at the time, a rail spur entered the assembly plant, where car bodies and chassis were delivered and finished cars were loaded for shipment. Ford owned the building until 1956. It later housed an appliance store and most recently, a printing company. Bartram received approval from the Fargo Preservation Commission to renovate the iconic structure and after months of construction, Northern Home Furniture & Design moved into its new home. The first floor was converted into a 15,000-square-foot showroom for Northern Home Furniture & Design and its sister company, Inter Office Workspace & Design. The lobby features quarter-sawn oak panels, a coffered ceiling, and a beautiful, mosaic marble tile floor, which complements the original staircase. Mutchler Bartram Architects PC and Sterling Companies moved into office space on the second floor, while the third floor is now elegant condominiums. Come visit Northern Home Furniture & Design in the Historic Ford Building for all your design and furnishing needs.
